Found you through Pioneer Woman’s site. Thanks for sharing this ivoryhut–I’ve been looking for a good basic flan recipe. My mother loves flan & pumpkin (I’ve never been a fan, but it looks like THIS may just change my mind about that). I’m definitely making this for our next dinner together after Thanksgiving–it looks soooo yummy!
Um Hi,
I found you from Ree’s website, this recipe looks great! I can’t wait to make it. Is there anyway you can send me some recipe indigenous to the phillipines please. I am especially interested in poncit. any help is greatly appreciated. I have looked on the internets for recipes, but I want to be sure that the recipe is tried and true before I try it. thanks

My name is Nina also (how often does that happen!) and I can give you a few good Filipino recipes for Pancit, Lumpia etc, by going to my high school alumni website. I attended high school at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines during the 70’s and many of my classmates were Filipino-Americans who have contributed these delicious recipes.
Beautifully photographed. My mother makes a version of this flan. She is Venezuelan but has lived here in the USA through many thanksgivings and created her own recipe.
Ivory Hut… Kababayan… Thank you for the Pumpkin flan recipe found at PW and it’s on my menu for the Thanksgiving dessert. I was so intimidated to make it but you made it look so easy so I will give it a try.
It’s nice to see fellow kababayan on the blogosphere world. Keep it up and you are on my fave list.
My goodness, this looks so decadent! I’ve only ever made leche flan the typical way! Just sugar for the caramel, and a bit of citrus flavoring for the flan itself, but i really must try this recipe. Yum! Thanks for sharing!
All I can say is WoW. Your Filipino roots are refreshing, the recipe decadent, and I am just so very happy to have found you! I’m definitely going to have to try making this!
hi ivoryhut
came here from PW’s site. we did our first thanksgiving dinner this year. i don’t like pumpkin anything and so wasn’t planning on a traditional dessert. saw the recipe and awesome pics too late. i love flan and this is too terrific a dessert idea to pass up next year. thanks a lot!
Thank you for posting this recipe on PW’s blog. I showed it to my boyfriend a couple weeks ago and he was so enamored by the photos and excitedly asked to make it.

Hi Nina! You know, I never was a fan before, either. But it *really* is good. And when I’m feeling wicked, I use milk and cream instead of canned milk. Uber rich.
Hello, Nina #2! Thanks for dropping in. My dad was in the military (Philippine Army), and I have memories tied to Clark Air Base, too. How nice that you all still keep in touch!
Yes, even in the Philippines, different regions have their own version. This is my dork version. One of these days, I’ll have to master the dry sugar method of making the caramel.
Incurable dreamer. Unintentionally absurd. Given to random moments of stream of consciousness thinking-out-loud, which confuses people around and seems to bother small animals. Passably intelligent about the useless stuff. Damnably idiotic when it comes to the simple stuff.
In other words, painfully ordinary. But now and then, a flash of the extraordinary comes through. Or maybe that's just the neighbor playing with mirrors again.
