Symmetry in diving

One of my quirks is that I always lean towards symmetry. I like to straighten things and make them equidistant to each other. I like things perfectly parallel, or perpendicular to each other. If I have to, I’ll settle for 45 degree angles. Maybe 30 or 60 in a pinch.

I’m also most likely to be that annoying person who, in the middle of your sentence, gets up to make sure the frames hanging on the wall are all properly aligned.

It’s a sickness, I’m telling you.

So you can imagine how much of a joy it was to walk around the dive center at the resort where I got certified. Not just because of what I was preparing to do, but because there was symmetry and repetition everywhere.

I didn’t have to arrange these wet suits. They were hanging just so. I think they knew I was coming.

Yep. For all my photographic tilts and experimenting with unusual angles, it’s symmetry that still pleases me most.

Which is why I don’t particularly enjoy looking at the mirror. But you didn’t have to know that.

  1. Fun pictures! Quirks are good… (at least that’s what I tell myself..)
Are you still using a point-n-shoot? I’m really wanting to get one. My rationale is that I’d take more spontaneous pictures than I would with my hefty DSLR… If I would just get over my everyone-is-looking-at-me-I-look-so-stupid phobia my DSLR probably would be just fine.

Looks like you’re having fun! Again, I love the “Pattern” type pictures!

  2. I have to agree with you about symmetry. I like the basket shot best.

Patriot Girl, I carry my dSLR almost everywhere. When I want to be unobtrusive, I put on a small lens.

  3. LOL! I try to be an asymmetrical type of person but I usually subconciously slide towards symmetry too.
