I am not a slacker. Really. Ask my friends.

I know I’ve been quiet lately, but I promise it’s been for good reason. Boring reason, but good reason nevertheless. (Taxes are boring, yes?)

If it’s any consolation to you, I haven’t been anywhere near a beach. I haven’t even been anywhere near any photos of any beach. I’ve been home, doing the aforementioned boring but necessary things. And in my downtime, I make friends with the withering flowers in my kitchen.

Yes, this is what life is like after a Caribbean cruise and before a transatlantic 20+ hour flight. Welcome to my reality.

Sand

Confession of the day: I can’t build sandcastles. Not even if my life depended on it. I couldn’t even construct a sand hill if you asked. Yes, I’m that pathetic.

Just about the only things I can do in the sand are scribble random words, and dig random holes. Random is a big thing with me, and I like to pretend that it’s deliberate. Especially when I have no idea what I’m doing.

No, that’s not my gigantic hairy foot. Thank goodness. I was just sitting under some shade, taking random photographs. Because, unlike me, other people have no trouble finding things to do in the sand.

I guess the menu just wasn’t enticing enough for this guy. But c’mon, who could resist an order of … umm … frozen cafe?

Guess this kid wasn’t into the frozen cafe either. He was too busy digging. I thought of offering some help, since I do have a bit of experience with digging myself into various holes, but he looked like he had it all under control.

Hmmm. Maybe I should have asked him for pointers instead.

Crazy

It’s been a bit crazy here, with me trying to load my entire CD collection into iTunes with the intention of putting all my music in one external drive, and then moving all my photos to a separate drive. Thing is, it’s been really slow going with the CD loading, and the photos? They’re in a drive alright, but the drive is somewhere in the computer room now and I’ve been too busy to retrieve it and work on a few more vacation photos.

Then there’s all the preparation for a month-long trip next month to the Philippines, which is another monster on its own. Good grief, more packing. Ack!

To celebrate all the current craziness, here’s a photo of some crazy Caribbean skies. It’s a stretch, I know, but hey. It was already in my Flickr account, and it was either this or trek upstairs to look for that photo drive. And my legs are pretty tired right now.

I promise, if thinking about the packing doesn’t kill me, then I’ll have more photos up as the week goes on.

Thanks for your patience. Umm … wanna help me pack?

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.

If you want to learn more about me, here are 43 things I'd like to do. Here's a little something about my name, in case you were wondering. Here are some other places you'll find me:

LOST AND FOUND

One summer night in 2010, our house burned to the ground and we lost everything we had. This is the story of what happened and how life and hope can always rise from ashes.

I'm proud to belong to an amazing community of Filipino food lovers. Together, we celebrate this often-neglected Asian cuisine, sharing our family's treasured recipes and discovering new ones along the way. This is our club.
