Nettlesome

Here’s one of the many reasons I need to visit the allergist in the first place.

Pretty though, eh?

(I know it’s not nettle, but I thought “dandelionsome” was too cumbersome a word.)

Being allergic to dandies must be tough! Hard to get away from those babies. Excellent job making a mostly-hated weed look lovely.

Thanks, guys! Karma, I’m basically allergic to anything I breathe, but fortunately, monthly shots are helping.

Interestingly enough, tea made from dandelion and nettle is supposed to be very good for your health. A friend of mine took a bunch of dandelion flowers, seasoned them and deep-fried them, and used them as croutons on a salad. It was surprisingly quite tasty.

Are the dandelions out of control this year or what??? I swear they’re taking over our neighborhood. I don’t have dandelion allergies, thank goodness, but I’m allergic to just about everything else…the oak tree release last week had me on my back.

KD, I spotted grotesquely tall dandelions coming up from among my rhododendron buds. The nerve! Yeah, tree pollen here in the east coast has been bad lately. Give me coconut trees any time.

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.

If you want to learn more about me, here are 43 things I'd like to do. Here's a little something about my name, in case you were wondering. Here are some other places you'll find me:

I'm proud to belong to an amazing community of Filipino food lovers. Together, we celebrate this often-neglected Asian cuisine, sharing our family's treasured recipes and discovering new ones along the way. This is our club.
