Hummingbird, three ways

Straight from the camera:

Slightly processed:

Black and white (because I thought the colored version reveals how out of focus the flowers are):

And now I’m not so sure. I think I’m leaning more towards the color version again. But that’s me. Flaky and changeable.

How about you? How would you like your hummingbird today?

I love the color version…the delicate nature of what is happening really comes through.

Love the color version, too! I didn’t notice that the flowers were out of focus until you mentioned it, and even then… it’s not bad at all.

I like the “slightly processed” color version – it helped bring out the bird more. In the SOOC, he blends a bit to the background with the similar colors.

Color version here too! The focus is on sweet little birdie, so the flower focus isn’t an issue…the color is so pretty!

Karma, the SOOC has that weird hue to it because I was shooting through the thick glass of the patio door. I didn’t like it either, thought that it did nothing to highlight the little bird.

Thanks for your input, friends. Color version wins then!

Oh, hut, I was just looking out my back door at the hanging plants my family gave me for Mother’s Day and I caught what appeared to be quick movement under the fuschia plant – it was a hummingbird! What I would’ve given to be at the ready with my camera!

Karma, I had a similar encounter with a hummingbird here in NJ a few years ago. I walked out on the porch and saw this hummingbird feeding on my hibiscus. It actually flew in front of me and stopped a while, as if posing for the lady mentally kicking herself for not having a camera. It was the first time I had seen one here, and I have yet to see another one in this area.

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.

If you want to learn more about me, here are 43 things I'd like to do. Here's a little something about my name, in case you were wondering. Here are some other places you'll find me:
