Because I love singy singy songs

I’ve spent the better part of my recovery watching clips from Daryl Hall’s latest project, Live From Daryl’s House. If you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly urge you to find a spare hour (the laundry can wait) and treat yourself to some musical goodness. Even my iPod isn’t complaining after having to play these clips over and over and over again.

His latest guest was KT Tunstall, and boy did they rock. That woman can SING! They’ve posted a few of the songs on YouTube, but you can head to the site and watch the entire show there. It was so good to watch real musicians jamming together and creating, well, magic. It made me tingly all over. And that wasn’t the Motrin talking.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, here are three offerings to convince you.

Something To Talk About (Bonnie Raitt cover)

Black Horse and The Cherry Tree

If Only (the singy singy song)

Those harmonies are just killer!

Mad, mad music. It’s stuff like this that makes me love the internets. Oh, and if you head over to the official Live From Daryl’s House site, you’ll find a fantastic, bluesy version of “Kiss On My List” that’ll knock your socks off.

I’m so glad Daryl seems to have won his battle with Lyme disease. I’d be hard-pressed to forgive Bambi for ever robbing us of these amazing sessions.

“I had such a wicked time,” KT enthuses about appearing on Live From Daryl’s House. “It was a dream to sing with such a great singer. Daryl really has an amazing voice. I’ve never sung with a guy able to do the things he can with his voice.”

Each new edition of Live From Daryl’s House takes place at one of Daryl’s homes in either upstate New York, Maine, the Bahamas or, like this one, London.

“Daryl’s House is a state of mind,” he says, one that KT Tunstall has now experienced for herself.

“It’s such a great vibe,” KT said. “We had a great laugh. Working with such hugely talented and respected musicians, it was such a great vibe, I felt I’d known them for years. Daryl has a great thing going on there. It’s pure music.”

And that’s what it’s all about.

    Hi Ivory…

So glad you’re feeling better. The Daryl’s house site is WAY cool. I so enjoyed it.

How’d you get these tracks on your iPod? I sent an email to the site asking if I could buy a download but haven’t heard back.

Brc, I was watching the video clips on my iPod touch. I don’t have them as mp3s, although I could just rip the audio from the flash files. If they do release tracks for download, let me know!

Which would be right around the same time I was starting to really enjoy playing music, too. :)

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.

If you want to learn more about me, here are 43 things I'd like to do. Here's a little something about my name, in case you were wondering. Here are some other places you'll find me:

LOST AND FOUND

One summer night in 2010, our house burned to the ground and we lost everything we had. This is the story of what happened and how life and hope can always rise from ashes.
