Three cents

orange tulip

One of the great things about supermarket anniversary specials is that you can get a bunch of seven tulips for twenty cents. That’s less than three cents a tulip.

(I initially wanted to photograph the bunch, but I happen to be the world’s worst floral arranger. I thought I’d spare you the visual.)

I’m loving all your flower shots in the winter! I think I need to buy myself a bouquet or something!

Karen, that’s what I’ve been doing! First it was that miniature rose plant, and now the tulips. Oh, and I also got this really interesting looking “foliage plant” that has no choice but sit there and be a willing subject for me. It may even end up as today’s photo, if nothing else inspires me.

Gosh I’ve gotten behind on your blog. You have some amazing shots here. This 365 project is a great idea. This tulip is beautiful. Did you put something behind it to make it black? I love the bright flower contrasted with the green leaf. Also love that you cut off the top of the tulip.

Brc, someone actually asked me, “Where’s the rest of the flower?” :) I said it was intentional. Then I started to worry. I’m glad someone else likes it.

Oh, and the original background was a dull gray shadow. I figured it would look much better against black. Some of the other shots I took had black in the background, from what I’m guessing would be shadows of the surrounding flowers and/or leaves. But this one had the composition I liked best.

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.

If you want to learn more about me, here are 43 things I'd like to do. Here's a little something about my name, in case you were wondering. Here are some other places you'll find me:
