I … I … I just couldn’t resist. It looked so beautiful up there in the sky. How could I not take its picture?
One thing I’ll say about this Canon Powershot S5. For a non-DSLR, it sure does a great job taking photos of the moon.
Oh, and I didn’t venture outside for this. I’m growing tired of getting sick so much during the cold months. Like a winter sissy, I held my camera up against the window and shot this from the comfort of my kitchen. Which had heated tile floors. I wasn’t a complete wimp, though. I did have to balance myself on a chair.
Please tell me that counts for something.

Once again I’m very impressed by your moon shot. That’s very cool that you were able to do that with a non-DSLR. Gives me some hope for mine. I think it should still count as ninja-photography since you were balancing on a chair – standing up, I’m guessing?
Completely unrelated to the photo: you have heated tile floors? Wow, that sounds wonderful. No more cold tootsies.
Actually, half-standing and half-balancing on one knee on the edge of the chair. Could count as baby ninja photography.
Yes, the heated tile floors are lovely in the winter. Sometimes I just plop myself down on the floor and sit there for a few minutes enjoying the warmth. Except when the tiles get too warm (they sometimes do), then sitting there just feels weirdly uncomfortable.
I need to know your tricks for moon shots. I took some the other day and no matter what I did with the exposure, the moon seemed overexposed and too bright.
Brc, for moon shots, I switch my camera to spot metering and meter off the brightest part of the moon. For the most part, that works best. Sometimes, if it’s still too bright, I’ll bump down the exposure setting a bit. But I rarely do that.
Oh. I haven’t gotten to the spot metering section of my camera manual yet. I started going thru the manual page by page while we were on vacation. I got about halfway thru and haven’t touched it again. I actually learned so much by doing that. Will look for the spot metering instructions and try moon shots again. Thanks!
