Moon in trees

Last night brought yet another gorgeous moon to the night sky. We were on our way home and I kept hoping it would stay high enough to be photographed from the porch. So once again, there I was on the front porch with cold hands and a runny nose trying to shoot a few pictures of the moon.

It had already started descending below the trees, but the lack of leaves managed to still provide me a decent and semi-obstructed view of the moon.

Here’s another one I shot and then processed in tritone:

Forgive the almost-identical moon poses. I just didn’t have it in me to stay out there long enough to capture the moon in a noticeably different position. Plus, I hadn’t had dinner yet and my stomach was making noises in the dark that were just plain spooky and not at all entertaining or amusing.

Oh, and please help me out here. I was wondering what it might say about me that I would sit in my bathroom in the middle of the night, in the complete dark, with a camera in hand taking a picture of the whirlpool tub because I happened to notice how the moonlight streaming in from the skylight cast an interesting hue on the faucet and the tiles.

No fair using the word “weird” on me twice.

PS Yes, I know that’s a bar of Lever soap there, and not Ivory. Shhh. Don’t tell on me.

I love that you are always thinking about photos. Nice moon shots. Also, the lighting on the faucet is very cool. How did you take the shot without it blurring? Did you use a tripod?

Brc, yes I used a tripod, albeit just a mini tabletop tripod with bendable legs. With a shutter speed of about 15 seconds (it was quite dark in that bathroom), that’s the only way I could have taken a non-blurry photo.

I initially wanted to just set my camera on my dresser and use the timer feature, but I needed the camera to point downward to get the faucet in the frame. So it was mini tripod to the rescue.

These are beautiful. You are making me jellies…yes, that means quake with envy.

I would love to see if you applied a “red filter effect”to the moon, then convert to B&W to see what happens…oooh I know I know…do that Ansel Adams thingy…utra violent or whatever ya macallit

Gee for some reason as I’m sitting here, I’m getting a bit of the creeps! First the spooky moon, then that faucet seems somewhat Alfred Hitchcock looking to me! Feels like something is going to jump out and get me! :-O

Hmm, the moonlight is a little creepy, but cool anyway. And the faucet actually looks welcoming to me. Does that make me weird?

The faucet shot is truly eerie. I agree with karmadav; very Hitchcock-y!

Thanks a lot, guys. Now you have me scared of being in my own bathroom alone at night. Nice job.

Shrew … eh? What is this Ansel Adams thingie macallit of which you speaketh?

Last night, I actually shut the lights off in the bathroom and forced myself to look at the tub and imagine creepy stuff. But after a few minutes, all I felt was this need to take a nice long bath.

Guess that means the bathroom’s a safe place again at night.

Then again, later as I was asleep, I dreamt strange dreams of being sold and having to go to some graveyard to return some bolts (don’t ask). So maybe there was just a delay?

about me

I write, cook, play music, and make pictures. Not necessarily in that order. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and it shows. That means I eat rice with every meal, love my cousins like my own siblings, and firmly believe that avocados are best eaten with cream and sugar.
